“And being but two and twenty and full of enthusiasm, I said, ’ I will devote my life to this. This is worth while.’ You know what fools we are at two and twenty?”—H.G. Wells, the Invisible Man (via allisonbneckman)
“Compassion hurts. When you feel connected to everything, you also feel responsible for everything. And you cannot turn away. Your destiny is bound with the destinies of others. You must either learn to carry the Universe or be crushed by it. You must grow strong enough to love the world, yet empty enough to sit down at the same table with its worst horrors.”—
Yet another reason you should be happy you don’t reside in TN. I’d say I’m shocked our lawmakers spent any time on this but I’m not.. more fodder for the insane ignorance train that The South thrives on. Dumb Dumb Dumb.
A new Tennessee law makes it a crime to “transmit or display an image” online that is likely to “frighten, intimidate or cause emotional distress” to someone who sees it. Violations can get you almost a year in jail time or up to $2500 in fines.
“Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself. Think for yourself. Question authority.”—Timothy Leary (via eternalconsciousness)
